Confused about Car Insurance?

Below is an explainer on various elements of an Insurance policy in Pueblo, Colorado. Keep in mind- Car insurance policy is a contract between you and an insurance company. Not all insurance contracts are written the same. That is why as an Independent Agent – not beholden to any one Insurance Company, Pueblo Insurance should be your source to sort through your Insurance choices.

About Car Insurance:

You pay a premium, and in exchange, the insurance company promises to pay for specific car related financial losses during the term of the policy. Pueblo Insurance is an Independent Insurance Agency who works as your agent.  Pueblo Insurance is licensed with many Great Insurance Companies. As your agents here, in Pueblo, we are not controlled by any insurance company. That means we work here in Pueblo for you to determine the car insurance coverage you want at a price you can afford. The right coverage for Pueblo at the right price for you.

The auto insurance policy you select can be a comprehensive policy to get you back on the road quickly if your car is damaged or destroyed by accident, fire, theft, or other event covered by insurance. Or your insurance policy can provide just the basic coverage as required by law, in Pueblo, such as protection against medical and legal expenses resulting from injury, loss of life, or property damage caused by an accident involving your vehicle. Pueblo Insurance also writes basic coverage with a Broad Form as an owner or non-owner of an auto. This means you can have insurance  coverage for you as a car driver instead of insuring each vehicle you own.  Broad form insurance is normally the cheapest Pueblo car insurance for most drivers who has several vehicles and wants just basic coverage.

What kind of insurance do I need?  Stated differently: What can I afford to pay for by myself? What is impossible for me to do by myself without help by having adequate car insurance?

For some risks, clients choose to assume the potential loss, but other risks, the potential losses are too great to assume on your own. It is your choice.  As licensed Pueblo Insurance agents, we try to give you as much information as we can to help you make an informed insurance-buying decision.
In Colorado, to drive you must carry:

•Liability insurance coverage – to pay for losses you cause others, at minimum limits of $25,000 per person $50,000 for all parties and $15,000 property damage. We do not recommend minimum insurance coverage as being adequate to protect most Pueblo drivers. Final insurance coverage options are your choice.

•Medical insurance coverage pays you and your passengers for out of pocket medical and related expenses caused by injuries from a car accident up to policy limits. Minimum insurance coverage required to be offered in Colorado is $5,000. Higher insurance limits are generally available. Medical insurance coverage can be waived by policy owner.

• Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) insurance coverage- is required to be offered in amounts equal to the Liability insurance  limits selected. This can be waived but at Pueblo Insurance we do not recommend nor will we generally write coverage without some UM/UIM insurance coverage.

Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage

WaivingUM/UIM insurance coverage puts you, your family members and MOST PUEBLO DRIVERS at risk due to the high number of uninsured or underinsured motorists. Please view video link at bottom of page!

Optional Insurance coverage (portions of these coverages along with liability coverage are sometimes referred to as full coverage): To finance a car, your lender will require you to have auto insurance which covers physical damage to your vehicle.  You may continue to select optional physical damage insurance coverages for your own protection even when not required by a lender. These insurance coverages include:

Collision Insurance

Collision insurance coverage pays for damage caused to your car in an accident with another vehicle or a one-car rollover. Standard collision insurance coverage will pay for any repairs up to the fair market value of your car. Collision insurance coverage usually also comes with an insurance deductible. It’s the amount of money you pay toward repairs before your collision insurance kicks in. The higher the insurance deductible you’re willing to pay, the less the collision insurance coverage will cost. Insurance in Pueblo, is somewhat higher than the rest of Colorado due to high incident of uninsured collision losses.

Comprehensive Insurance

Comprehensive insurance coverage is very similar to collision Insurance coverage – the main difference is that comprehensive insurance usually covers damage caused to your vehicle caused by everything other than collision or upset such as any unknown party or “act of God”, vandalism, flood, hurricane, theft, windshield damage, fire etc. Like collision insurance, comprehensive insurance will pay up to the fair market value of your car (less your insurance deductible.) And although comprehensive insurance is not legally required in Pueblo,  you will probably need it if your car has significant cash value or is financed. In and near Pueblo, the higher incidence of hail causes the insurance cost but also the benefit to rise on comprehensive coverage.

Towing/Emergency Road Service Insurance

Sometimes drivers have this insurance coverage under car dealer warranty programs or member organizations such as AAA or credit card companies. However, towing insurance is generally available at a reasonable rate as a package with most of our Insurance companies. With the wide open stretches of highway near Pueblo, Pueblo Insurance recommends having some form of towing insurance.

Loss of Use/rental car Insurance

An often over looked insurance coverage, but Loss of Use Insurance does help the policyholder with additional out of pocket expenses associated with an insured loss. Please discuss this with Pueblo Insurance as well as many of the other optional insurance coverages available to you to meet your specific needs. There is no one size of insurance policy  that fits every client in Pueblo or Southern Colorado.

Minimum Insurance is not always the Cheapest Insurance in the long run.

Before the unexpected happens, consider which insurance options are right for you.

However, there is a difference between getting “just what the law requires” or “cheap car insurance in Pueblo” and what is  adequate insurance coverage in Pueblo should you have a loss. Please view the video on the link below on Minimum Car Insurance. The video explains it is not just your driving that comes into play. Adequate insurance  near Pueblo must include consideration about  the other driver who may carry no insurance or not enough insurance to cover your loss or those of any passenger in your  insured car. Pueblo Insurance will tailor your insurance coverage as you request so that you only pay for the insurance coverage you need. But, we need to explore what you want insured before any potential loss rather than having any regrets over not having adequate insurance coverage after the fact.

Beware Minimum Car Insurance may leave you stranded
